BHAC is a unique project set up to facilitate the needs of the local community in preserving their history. The Centre has archive material, which includes oral histories, videos, photographs and documents, carefully collected and preserved for posterity.

BHAC provide a focus for people in the local community who want to research local/family history. We also provide the opportunity for residents and past residents, both at home and abroad, to record and preserve their own unique story.

Community members are active as friends of BHAC and many projects are carried out with other partner community groups. Regular activities at the Centre include Coffee mornings for BHAC Members and a Seafarers Group that thrives on the reminiscences of dockers and sailors.

Community courses held at the Centre include creative writing, embroidery and oral history sessions.
