Funded by a grant from Cardiff Bay Development Corporation
and the Arts Council of Wales, the Butetown Community
Quilt was created as a permanent commemorative textile
which reflects the rich cultural history and diversity
of the area.
Production of the quilt began with Bethan Ash, an internationally
renowned quilt artist, conducting classes at the Butetown
Community Centre and the BHAC gallery on Wednesday evenings.
The quality of the quilt is remarkable given the fact
that many of the team have been introduced to the techniques
of sewing, embroidery and quilting for the first time.
It also testifies to the excellent teaching skills,
workmanship and professionalism of artist Bethan Ash.
